Fort Myers, Are You Ready for the Next Big Storm?

Damages of floods

Fort Myers, like many parts of Florida, often has to deal with the impact of hurricanes and tropical storms. High velocity winds often tear through the area leaving fallen trees, damaged homes in their wake. One of the biggest issues to contend with as a coastal community is damage caused by floods. When it comes to flood damage Fort Myers is ,unfortunately, no stranger. Tidal waters tend to sweep into the area more than many other places along the Sunshine State’s western coast.

Flood damages can take on many different forms. Oftentimes when people think about flooding, they only think about having to remove the water. Trust me, when it comes to water removal Fort Myers is well acquainted. What many people do not think of, unless they have gone through it themselves, is what happens to your property while the water is sitting there. Water damaged carpet, ruined electronics, and water logged infrastructure are all major concerns. Carpet can be cleaned and replace, and electronics often have great warranties. When the walls and support structures of your home absorb water they need to be assessed immediately for their integrity. If left for too long, water logged wood will begin to rot and deteriorate. This is one of many reasons why having great home owner’s insurance with sufficient coverage for flood damages is so important.

For residents of Floridian areas often affected by huge storms in their area, contacting professionals can help you with water damage prevention. It is not always possible, but experts in information about flooding can, at the very least, hope to mitigate the risk to your home. If it is too late and your home is already damaged, contacting experts in your area who can assist you with water removal and flood damage restoration is the best step to take. 1. After getting hit with the last storm we contracted a company that “water-proofed” a lot of our home. I use quotations because if the forces our strong enough, nothing is going to keep the wind and the rain out. -Kadree

  2. @Kadree- I hear you. I’m in Fort Myers. We also took steps to mitigate future damages by sealing certain areas water can get in and by stocking up on sandbags and wood boards. Here’s hoping!
